Education Experiences
Field Trips and In-School Programs
Grades: Preschool-6th Class
Offerings 2007-2008
The Seaport Association’s Celebrating the Sea” education programs – taking
place in the 4th floor loft of an historic working oyster house – provide
visiting school groups with a unique exposure to local maritime history and to
Long Island Sound’s marine environment. Using a 300-gallon marine aquarium,
Seaport educators encourage a greater understanding of local sea creatures with
hands-on observations. A new curriculum is developed yearly to accommodate each
grade level.
Can’t come here? Our educators will bring a 45-minute Seaport experience to your
school.
Grades: 9-12
We can arrange a trip to Sheffield Island that meets the needs of your
class. The island offers a great opportunity for learning about the ecosystem,
plankton, salt marshes, water habitat, and other topics related to the marine
environment. The Norwalk Seaport Association partners with the U.S. Fish &
Wildlife Service to maintain a walking trail and viewing platform in the Stewart
B. McKinney Wildlife Refuge on Sheffield Island.
